“Teaching is the greatest act of optimism.” Colleen Wilcox

Parent and Student Testimonials

My daughter, at age 8, was struggling with reading and writing and got little joy from it. The effort that went into decoding just took over the entire experience. She preferred to be read to rather than read anything herself. Nicole was the single person who turned the situation around. She helped my child to decode in a way that she could understand and make sense of text. Gradually, the language on the page became filled with life for my child. It was as if Nicole turned an overwhelming ocean of the unknown into a child friendly, fun puzzle that was still challenging, but solvable and rewarding. The results were reachable and sustainable. Nicole brought my daughter the joy of language. The results were impressive and now four years later have extended into larger area of my daughter’s studies. Reading affects, at least some degree, every aspect of learning.

Miss O’Reilly is my reading teacher. She is so nice. Reading is not my speciality, but I am improving. Her skills to calm me down are exquisite. She has a glitter jar that is so relaxing. She wears the most wonderful outfits. They are so pretty. Miss O’Reilly is my favorite teacher.

—Henry, student, age 11

Miss Nicole was great at breaking language down, explaining the actual structure of language and then helping me put in all together again. She was always patient and never rushed me if I needed to go over something again. She was always happy and always ready to teach. Sometimes she even brought us a treat and I guess that doesn’t have much to do with this question but I liked it.

—Maya, student, age 13

My son, a UVM graduate, was diagnosed with dyslexia at a very young age, and throughout his journey we’ve been fortunate to work with many wonderful tutors. Nicole O’Reilly has been truly exceptional. She has a rare gift for understanding her students and connecting with them exactly where they are. Her compassion, patience, and dedication shine through in every lesson. Nicole is always learning and growing herself, bringing fresh insight and energy to her work. She has made a lasting difference in my son’s confidence and love of learning, and we are so grateful for her.
